600 CVs dropped and no interview call…
I had a miserable strike rate while searching for my first job in the city.
One day in 2004, sitting alone & frustrated, I was questioning my own abilities.
What is wrong with me?
Should I go back?
Am I not good enough?
I kept brooding while looking at my CV.
Suddenly I witnessed the bolt of lightning which changed my whole life forever.
I noticed a mistake in my mobile number.
The last two digits, instead of 66 were mistakenly typed as 99.
I corrected it immediately – started applying without wasting any more time. And got my first interview call within a weeks’ time.
This taught me:
1) While working on bigger projects we tend to ignore the small “harmless” details – which can cost us the whole project.
2) There is no macro without the micro. You must master the micro details to get hold of the project at the macro level.
As the say, “The difference between something good and something great is attention to detail”!
