A friend of mine refused a promotion.
She was offered a promotion with an increase in salary but she rejected it.
How on earth will someone reject a promotion?
I decided to ask her. I said; “Are you out of your mind? Why would you refuse a promotion?”
She smiled and said, ”My kids are growing up – I can’t trade my family for money, responsibilities or titles because money can be recovered but family can never.”
I got her point.
She had time she almost lost everything because of a job and she wouldn’t want it to repeat itself again.
A small conversation with her taught me:
1) Priorities influence decisions:: Two people may react completely differently to the same situation due to different priorities. Setting clear priorities helps in faster decision making. It is not about being right or wrong, it is about priorities.
2) All that glitters is not gold:: Every good looking opportunity is not worth grabbing.
Sometimes saying NO to chase a bigger goal is a better decision in terms of ROI.
Agree?
